Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the 341 km Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh after landing on the highway airstrip in an IAF C-130 Hercules plane.

In a nearly hour-long inauguration speech, PM Modi described how the Purvanchal Expressway will fast-track the region, and by extension the state, on the road to development. He also mounted a scathing attack on previous regimes, blaming them for UP’s backwardness and accusing them of hampering the state’s advancement with their dynastic politics and corruption.

Here’s a rundown of the key points made by PM Modi in his speech.

EXTOLLS PURVANCHAL EXPRESSWAY

"Those who have any doubt on capabilities of UP, on capabilities of people of UP should come to Sultanpur today to witness their capability. Such a modern expressway has now come up where it was just a piece of land 3-4 years back."

"When I laid the foundation stone of Purvanchal Expressway 3 years back, I had never thought that I will land here on an aircraft one day."

"It also a fact that a vast state like UP was earlier cut off from within to a great extent. This expressway is bridging this gap and connecting the people of UP."

"This expressway is a reflection of the modernizing face of UP. This expressway is a symbol of the strong will power of UP. It is a living proof of the accomplishment of resolutions in UP. This is the pride of UP, this is the wonder of UP."

PROSPERITY HAND-IN-HAND WITH SECURITY

"Nation's security is as important as its prosperity. In a short while from now, we will see how Purvanchal Expressway has now become one more power for the Indian Air Force in cases of emergency. Our fighter plane will land on the expressway."

RAINS FIRE ON OPPOSITION

"The politics done in UP, the manner in which governments were run for a long time - they didn't pay attention to UP's all-round and holistic development. One region of UP and its people were given away to mafia and poverty."

"Development under previous chief ministers was limited to places where they had homes and families."

"The government before Yogi ji did injustice to people of UP. The manner in which they discriminated in development, the manner in which they did welfare of only their family - people of UP will permanently remove them from the path of the state's development."

"It was unfortunate that both Delhi and Lucknow were dominated by dynasts. For years and years, this partnership of dynastic families kept crushing the aspirations of UP."

LAUDS ‘KARMAYOGI’ UP CM

"I am happy that today Yogi ji's government is working without discrimination, casteism, regionalism and dynastic politics. The UP government is working with the mantra of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas'."

"Some people are losing their cool over the performance of the double engine government. Those who failed in their time are not able to stand the success of CM Yogi."

TRUMPETS BJP GOVT’S ‘VIKAS’ AGENDA

"In 2014, when UP gave me the opportunity to serve the great land of India, I started many development works for the 'vikas' of UP. As Pradhan Sevak, it was my duty to transform UP."

"I initiated a lot of projects for UP. Poor were given pucca houses, toilets were ensure in their houses so that women don't need to step out to relieve themselves, that every house should have electricity - a lot of such things were necessary to be taken up here."

"The way Uttar Pradesh is being made an express state under the BJP government, it is happening for the first time since independence."

"Just a few weeks back, I inaugurated the International Airport at Kushinagar and today I have the privilege of handing over the Purvanchal Expressway to you. It will benefit the poor as well as the middle class."
