Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached Union Home Minister Amit Shah's residence in New Delhi on Thursday.

He is on a two-day visit to the national capital and is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, sources have said.

Adityanath's visit comes a day after Jitin Prasada, a former Congress leader who comes from a well-known Brahmin family of Uttar Pradesh, left the party and joined the BJP.

According to India Today sources, Apna Dal MP Anupriya Patel will also meet Amit Shah at 5 pm.

His visit assumes significance as the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh is going to polls early next year.

Significance of Yogi Adityanath's visit to Delhi:

The UP chief minister held a meeting late on Wednesday night with state BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh and state general secretary in-charge of the organisation Sunil Bansal in Lucknow.

Although the government said that it was a routine meeting which is held every month, Sunil Bansal had reached Lucknow via helicopter to attend this meeting, sources said.

It is being said that Yogi Adityanath has come to Delhi to give the latest report of the meeting and the speculations in recent times.

There have been rumours of a change in leadership in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the crucial Assembly election next year and growing criticism of the Yogi government for failing to control the second wave of Covid-19 efficiently.
