Saudi Commerce Minister Majid Al-Qasabi has said that mutations of novel coronavirus and uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 vaccines had led to the delay in announcing the details of Haj.

Al-Qasabi said the Covid-19 vaccine was not mandatory in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Commerce Minister Majid Al-Qasabi on Sunday said that mutations of novel coronavirus and uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 vaccines had led to the delay in announcing the details of Haj 2021. Majid Al-Qasabi said the ministers of health and Haj would soon divulge more details about this year’s pilgrimage.

Speaking at a press conference, Al-Qasabi said the Covid-19 vaccine was not mandatory in Saudi Arabia. He also said 40 per cent of the Kingdom's population had been vaccinated so far.

“If we want to coexist, go to markets and return to schools and work, we should take the vaccine,” said Al-Qasabi.

He said that Saudi Arabia had advanced in global rankings among 167 countries regarding environmental concern.

“Saudi Arabia is the first in the MENA region and has advanced in global ranks among 167 countries in the measurement of environmental concern,” he added.
