Lockdown has been announced in Bihar till May 15 as the state battles a massive surge in Covid-19 cases. Bihar currently has over 1 lakh active coronavirus cases while its total case tally has crossed the 5-lakh mark.
The Bihar government headed by CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced lockdown in the state till May 15 over the deteriorating Covid-19 situation.
Nitish Kumar said in a tweet on Tuesday that the decision to impose a lockdown in Bihar was taken after consultations with officers and concerned authorities and a detailed guideline over the restrictions will be announced soon.
Bihar Opposition leader, RJD's Tejashwi Yadav has hit out at Nitish Kumar saying the JDU leader failed to enforce the lockdown earlier as he was waiting for orders from others.
"For 15 days, the entire opposition had been demanding a lockdown, but the 'Chhote Sahab' was following the orders of 'Bade Sahab' that there can't be a lockdown till May 2. Now when the infection has engulfed village after village, they have started this pretension. Come out of the low-level gimmick and politics in this crisis," said Tejashwi in a tweet.
Bihar's Covid-19 case tally has crossed the 5-lakh mark while the state now has over 1 lakh active cases. On Monday, Bihar reported 11,407 fresh Covid-19 cases along with 82 deaths.
Out of 82 new deaths, Patna accounted for 24 casualties while Muzaffarpur reported 13 fatalities, Madhepura (6) and West Champaran (5).
The Bihar government on Monday decided to make available Rs two crore each from the development money of the state legislators to corona eradication fund constituted in the health department to further enhance the medicare facility to fight Covid pandemic more effectively.
A sum of Rs 2 crore from the legislators fund of all the MLAs and MLCs for the fiscal 2021-22 be transferred to the corona fund.
