Delhi Schools unlikely to be reopened before July 2021, nursery admissions likely to be scrapped for 2021-22

Delhi Schools are reportedly unlikely to be reopened till July 2021. The government is also mulling cancelling the Delhi Nursery Admissions 2021-22 as schools have remained closed for the year.

With no dates announced yet for reopening of schools in Delhi, there are now reports that Delhi schools may not reopen before July 2021. The Delhi Government is also reportedly considering scrapping nursery admissions for the year 2021-22 and instead propose two batches of nursery and kindergarten in 2022-23.

Delhi’s Deputy CM and Education Minister Manish Sisodia reportedly told IE that there was no plans to reopen the schools as yet. “Even if we start vaccinating people by February, we will be able to vaccinate a sizeable chunk only by July. There is no possibility of reopening schools before that. We also have to look at how examinations will be conducted without putting teachers and students at risk,” he was reported as saying.

As for the Delhi Nursery admissions, a senior official was reported to have shared the government’s plans. While schools would be allowed to open admissions, but the batches would be from 2022-23.

“Schools can admit students in both nursery and kindergarten for the 2022-23 academic session, as there will be vacancies in both grades. Considering the unpredictable nature of the Covid virus, the youngest children will be the last to go to school in any case. In such a situation, to have another set of young children whose entire academic year will be online is a little unfair to them as well as to their parents,” a senior official reportedly told IE.

This year too the batches of students of nursery that started in April was shifted online. With the nursery and kindergarten been elementary to the child’s learning and developmental needs, it was imperative for them to attend classes. The official further added that it was not fare to students or parents.

There is no confirmation or official release regarding the same as yet. The government has not shared its plans to reopen the schools. The last official release was when the Delhi Government shared that schools in Delhi would remain closed till December 31.

As for vaccines, they are expected to be rolled out in the country from end of January. The sources in the government have shared that the possibility of reopening schools only post the vaccination drive is being considered.

Meanwhile, schools in neighbouring Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have reopened for classes 10 and 12 students. Many private schools in Delhi have expressed concerns and sought partial permission to allow students of classes 10 and 12 to go to schools for clearing doubts.
