Some plants left with 1 day of coal stock, says Delhi minister on looming power crisis

Amid the crisis over the shortage of coal, Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain has said some power plants are left with one day of coal stock.

Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain has said some power plants in the national capital have a day's stock of coal left. This comes a day after the Delhi government warned of a possible setback in the supply of uninterrupted power supply to hospitals and metro trains due to the shortage of coal.

"Ideally there should be coal stock for 21 days. There are power plants (which supply to Delhi) which are left with only 1 day of coal stock," he said.

He also requested the central government to ensure the availability of coal stock.

He said the current coal crisis was due to the lack of railway racks. "Earlier 450 railway racks were available, now it has been reduced to 405 racks. Better coordination by the Centre is required to avert the crisis," he said.

He also clarified that no payments were pending from Delhi’s side.
