Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted citizens on the occasion of Diwali and wished for everybody's happiness, prosperity and good fortune.
In a Twitter post on Thursday, PM Modi wrote, "Greetings to the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. I wish that this festival of lights brings happiness, prosperity and good fortune in your life. Wishing everyone a very Happy Diwali."
PM Modi to celebrate Diwali with Army jawans in J-K's Rajouri
Like every year, PM Modi will celebrate Diwali with soldiers serving in forward areas in states like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. This year, he is expected to visit the forward area of Nowshera sector in Jammu & Kashmir's Rajouri district today.
The prime minister has made it a tradition to celebrate his Diwali with soldiers since taking office in 2014. He had spent the festival with the jawans at Siachen in the same year.
He gifts sweets and other gifts to the jawans. PM Modi spent Diwali with the troops in Rajouri in 2019 as well.
In 2015, he visited the Punjab border on Diwali. His visit had coincided with 50 years of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
The next year, PM Modi was in Himachal Pradesh, where he spent time with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel at a border outpost.
In 2017, he spent his fourth Diwali as prime minister with soldiers at Gurez in J-K.
Last year, PM Modi travelled to the Longewala border in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer to celebrate Diwali where he had lit diyas with jawans during the celebrations.
