Sources have said Captain Amarinder Singh may float a new political party within the next fortnight with only months left for the assembly elections.
Amid the ongoing power tussle in Punjab, sources have said Captain Amarinder Singh may float a new political party within the next fortnight with only months left for the assembly elections.
Sources have also said that nearly a dozen Congress leaders are in touch with Capt Amarinder Singh, who is also consulting with his supporters on the next move. Amarinder Singh is also likely to meet some of the farmer leaders of Punjab.
On Wednesday, Amarinder Singh called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in Delhi, sparking speculation of him joining the BJP after his exit as the Punjab chief minister. However, on Thursday, Amarinder Singh clarified that he is not joining the BJP, but is also not staying with the Congress.
Coming out of the crucial meeting with Amit Shah, Amarinder Singh had said he was there to discuss the farm laws issues with the Union minister.
Amarinder Singh has also said that he is no longer a part of the Congress party while also adding that he will make sure that Navjot Singh Sidhu doesn't win in the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.
Weeks after Navjot Singh Sidhu's ceremonious elevation as the Punjab Congress chief, Amarinder Singh announced his resignation as the chief minister as the Congress party rallied behind the new leader.
While Sidhu managed to install a chief minister of his camp, he soon announced his resignation as the Punjab Congress chief, throwing the party into a deep crisis ahead of the assembly elections next year.
