1. WHY WAS RAJ KUNDRA ARRESTED?
Mumbai Police on late Monday night said that Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra, was arrested in a case involving pornographic films. The case registered against the 45-year-old is for the creation of pornographic films and publishing them through certain apps, police said.
The businessman was taken into custody by the Crime Branch on Monday after being booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act, he said.
2. WHAT IS THE CASE & WHEN WAS IT FILED?
An FIR was registered against Raj Kundra after a woman approached the police and made certain allegations in her complaint, Mumbai Police said. The case was registered on February 4 at the Malwani police station in suburban Mumbai.
"On that basis, the FIR was registered and the case transferred to the Crime Branch. Earlier also, we had registered cases related to pornography in which an actress and some other persons were made accused," the Mumbai Police official said.
“The case registered with the Crime Branch Mumbai in February 2021 about the creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps. We’ve arrested Mr Raj Kundra in this case on 19/7/21 as he appears to be the key conspirator of this. We have sufficient evidence regarding this," the Mumbai Police Commissioner said in a statement. "We will conduct a probe into the case against Raj Kundra and find out if there is any link between this and pornography cases which we had registered earlier," the official said.
3. WHAT ARE THE CHARGES AGAINST RAJ KUNDRA?
Raj Kundra was booked under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention), 292 and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays) of the Indian Penal Code, sections 67, 67A of the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The companies ask these women to compromise and make porn videos featuring them, and in turn, promise a break in a big-budget Bollywood movie.
Bungalows are rented all over Mumbai for filming these pornographic videos, which are then uploaded on porn sites and mobile apps. Such videos account for lakhs of rupees in revenue for companies. Sources said the accused also used to release trailers of such porn videos on social media sites including Instagram, Twitter, Telegram, and WhatsApp.
5. FRESH ARREST ON TUESDAY
