Former Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh passes away

 Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister and senior Congress leader Virbhadra Singh died in Shimla in the wee hours of Thursday after a prolonged illness.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away at the age of 87 in Shimla in the early hours of Thursday.

According to news agency PTI, Virbhadra Singh had been battling a prolonged illness. Reportedly, he breathed his last at the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital around 4 am.

"Former CM Virbhadra Singh ji died at the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMCJ) here around 4 am due to multi-organ failure," Dr Janak Raj, senior medical superintendent of the IGMC told the agency.

Virbhadra Singh had tested positive for Coronavirus on April 12 and on the next day, he was admitted to the Max hospital in Chandigarh.

After recovering from the first infection, the six-time Himachal Pradesh CM was discharged from the hospital on April 30. He returned to his home at Holly Lodge in Shimla.

However, within hours, he had to be taken to the IGMCJ as he complained of breathing problems. He had been in the hospital since then and was put on a ventilator for the last two days, sources close to him said.
