Cyclone Yaas : Kolkata airport suspends ops as storm inches closer to Odisha; Navy, IAF on standby

 Cyclone Yaas news: The states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand are on high alert ahead of the landfall of Cyclone Yaas, which has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm on its course over the Bay of Bengal. The coasts of Odisha and Bengal coasts are on red alert with nearly 11 lakh people evacuated ahead of the landfall close to north of Dhamra and south of Balasore in Odisha.

Very severe cyclonic storm’ Cyclone Yass is expected to make landfall close to the north of Dhamra and south of Balasore around noon today, the IMD has said. Ahead of the landfall, heavy rainfall is being witnessed in coastal Odisha, Bengal as the storm moved towards the coast. The Indian Navy and Indian Air Force are, meanwhile, on standby for rescue ops as the cyclonic storm gathers strength.
