The security has been tightened at several places in the national capital, following violence during the protesting farmers' tractor rally in Delhi on Tuesday.
Clashes broke out, and violence marred the farmers' rally on Republic Day (January 26), after a group of protesters climbed to the ramparts of the Red Fort, and hoisted flags.
On Wednesday, heavy security deployment was seen near Red Fort.
The security has also been heightened near Singhu border, where farmers are protesting against the three controversial farm laws.According to the Delhi Traffic Police, "people need to be careful" if they want to go from Delhi to Ghaziabad or Ghaziabad to Delhi today. NH-9 and NH-24 have been discontinued for safety, and "people planning to use this highway today are likely to face a lot of problems".
"Ghazipur Mandi, NH-9 and NH-24 have been closed for traffic movement. People commuting from Delhi to Ghaziabad are advised to take Shahdara, Karkari Mor and DND," it said. They have been advised to go from Ghaziabad to Delhi via Anand Vihar.
Meanwhile, entry and exit gates of Lal Quila metro station have been closed. "Entry gates of Jama Masjid metro station are closed," said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday.
"All other stations are open. Normal services on all lines," said the DMRC, adding, "Average waiting time at Saket station is 35 minutes. In case of any fluctuation in crowd, the waiting time will be informed accordingly."
As per the Delhi Police, at least 83 police personnel were injured after being attacked by agitating farmers on Tuesday. Some 15 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence during the tractor rally, and so far, 5 FIRs have been lodged in the Eastern Range.
"An FIR has been registered at IP police station in connection with the violence during yesterday's farmers' tractor rally in ITO. Case registered against unknown protestors including the farmer who died after his tractor overturned after ramming into a barricade," said the Delhi Police
Also, amid traffic restrictions, the Supreme Court appointed committee, which was scheduled to hold a meeting with the farmer unions on Wednesday, has postponed the meeting to Friday (January 29).
On Tuesday, the Delhi Police had closed the entry and exit gates of at least 20 metro stations, and stopped trains for over two hours at Tilak Bridge railway station after the protesters reached the ITO. The government also ordered suspending Internet services in parts of Delhi-NCR. It also cut the Internet in Delhi's Singhu, Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi and adjoining areas, till Tuesday midnight.
Union home minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting of officials on Tuesday, to assess the situation. After this, 15 companies of central armed forces were deployed across the city, while the Delhi Police commissioner was asked to deal with the protesters strictly.
