Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon said the hosts were not 100 percent sure about an edge from Virat Kohli's glove when they decided to go against a DRS review against the India captain on Day 1 of the ongoing Pink-ball Test in Adelaide.

Nathan Lyon said he did not hear any noise and that Virat Kohli had told him that he didn't feel anything on his gloves after Tim Paine went up in appeal for a caught behind. The on-field umpire did not give it out and the Australia captain waited for the DRS clock to run out before deciding against a review.

However, replays showed the ball had brushed Virat Kohli's gloves before Tim Paine took a fine catch down the leg. Paine and short leg fielder, Matthew Wade went up in appeal but it didn't find support from Lyon himself.

Virat Kohli was batting on 16 in the 36th over when Australia missed the DRS and the India captain went on to make 74 before he was run-out by Lyon after a horror mix-up with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. It could have been worse for Australia had it not been for that run-out as Kohli was looking in complete control, extending his love affair with the Adelaide Oval.

"From my angle, I was totally out of sight. For me, It wasn't my best ball and I couldn't hear any noise, it was quite windy out there," Lyon said.

"Paine was stoked, it was a pretty good catch. But we didn't really feel or hear anything. Wadey (Wade) said there was a sound and he looked to be in the right area but at the end of the day, we weren't 100 percent sure on that.

"Having talked to Virat in the middle, he said he didn't feel anything on his glove either. I had a look at his glove, there was no pink mark. It is what it is. Some days you get them, some days you don't."

'It was massive'

Lyon pointed out that Virat Kohl's wicket helped swing the momentum in their favour on Day 1 of the pink-ball Test. Kohli and Rahane had stitched an 88-run stand for the 4th wicket when the vice-captain's bad call cost the skipper his wicket. India went from 188 for 3 to 206 for 6 before ending the day's play at 233 for 6.

"It was massive, obviously a wicket like that or a run-out, especially Virat Kohli, it was massive," Lyon said.

Wriddhiman Saha and R Ashwin will resume the Indian innings in Adelaide on Day 2 as the visitors will look to stretch the total and take it close to the 300-run mark.
