Radha Ashtami 2020: Radha Ashtami is a Hindu festival celebrated as the birth anniversary of Shri Radha Rani who is considered to be the consort of Lord Krishna. According to Hindu Mythology, she is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Radha Ashtami is observed with full fervour and dedication in the northern regions of India such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

Devotees celebrate Radha Ashtami all over India with much fervour and enthusiasm. On this day, Radha Krishna icons are traditionally dressed entirely in flowers.

The festival of Radha Ashtami is observed in the month of Bhadrapada, on the eighth day of Shukla Paksha.

According to the Hindu calendar, Radha Ashtami falls 15 days after Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. As per the Gregorian calendar, Radha Ashtami falls in the month of August or September.

This year, Radha Ashtami will be observed on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. Goddess Radha is worshipped during Madhyahna Kala which is noontime according to Hindu division of the day.

How is Radha Ashtami observed?

On this special day, devotees get up before sunrise, have a bath, wear fresh clothes and worship Radha Krishna. Some devotees observe a fast for a half-day but some devotees observe it for a full day.

By mid-day, devotees first do Kalash Pujan after that install a statue of Radha Krishna offer fruit and flowers to them. Chant the mantras of Radha Krishna and perform the aarti of Radha Krishna. The Radha Gayatri Mantra is considered to be very popular and widely chanted by all devotees on Radha Ashtami.

Radha Ashtami 2020: Significance

It is believed that Radha Ashtami vrat brings happiness and prosperity in one's life. It is said that a person who observes fasting on this day becomes free from all sins, minds will be cleared from negative thoughts, and they will attain spiritual bliss.
